About us

The Senior Citizens’ Support Group was first established as the Senior Citizens’ Action Group in 2010 and changed its name in 2012. The group was registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation in March 2015 and registered with the Charity Commission with the number 1160774.

The Group is a non profit organisation run by the members for the members. There are up to twelve Trustees including the officers of the organisation, Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. The Trustees are augmented by a small number of co-opted members. The Board of Trustees and committee members are all volunteers. The charity does not employ any paid staff.

The aim of the Group is to provide as many activities each week and are currently providing a minimum of 10 events every week thus ensuring that members have something to look forward to at all times.

The Group received the (QAVS) Queens Award for volunteer services in June 2022 which is equivalent to the MBE.

Meet Our Trustees

All Trustees are volunteers and members of the Group. They are elected at the Annual General Meeting, for a period of three years. The Constitution of the Group calls for a maximum of twelve Trustees with one third retiring each year, although they may be re elected. From the Trustees there are elected a Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. The Trustees form the majority of the managing Board, which can be augmented by co-opted members should the Trustees so deem.

  • Chair

Alan has served the Group since early 2011 and became Secretary in late 2012, and then Trustee in 2015 and Chair of the Group in September 2018. Now fully retired he spends all his time organising the Group activities and ensuring the funding is in place to increase the number of activities each week and bring elderly people out of isolation and improve their mental wellbeing.

  • Secretary

Moira worked as an administrator in various companies, her last working position being with an older persons organisation. After retiring Moira joined SCSG as a volunteer and went on to take over the booking and management of excursions, assisting with the walks and managing membership data.
